Been investigating carpeting/upholstery material and came across this stuff: https://www.scs-interiors.com/feather-weight-aircraft-carpet.html

Anybody use it?  Looks decent.  I think I'll order some color swatches since I'm not sure what color to use.  Black, licorice, smoke,...

  1. Craig - just so you are aware - the upholstery kit does come with carpeting and other material to cover pretty much every surface. See Lo-Ammi's updates for photos of what you get

    1. Hi Gordon, I didn't know that. I started looking into it because I saw that Jim P was using some bought material for inside his arm rest glove box (I think that's what it is). Does the kit come with material to line that? Have you seen the material? Is it good quality?

  2. Yeah I saw what's in the Sling 4 at Torrance (maybe it's different then the kit) and I didn't like it... too thin, so I went with my own thing. What you found looks good though, I might get a swatch and see if it matches what I did so far. If not I don't think the weight is going to be a big issue since there's not that much of it. A lot of the stuff that comes with the kit is a bit shoddy.

    1. So you got your own material for all the exposed metal? Flooring, glove box, etc.?

I did order some swatches today, black, licorice and smoke.

    2. I didn't get all of it yet. I just didi the inside of the glove box and the removable panels (front and rear) that go under the seats. The only thing I'm wondering is if what I picked will match what comes on the side panels. It looks like a small portion of the carpet is stitched to the leather on the side pieces. I suppose it could be restitched, but that's kind of a pain. The stuff that's installed on the floor of the Sling 4 at Torrance is pretty crappy, but could be different then what comes with the kit. I'll have to look at what's in the 2's there when I go flying again. Also you might want extra to line the luggage area so it would be good to find stuff that matches the factory carpet anyways.

    3. The upholstery kit comes with enough material to cover everything that is not covered by the finished side panels (which are actually pretty nice), including all of the surfaces in the luggage area. The material is fairly thin. I can certainly see getting something a little more sturdy for the floor, but what they sent is plenty good for all the other surfaces. That being said, I am just going to use what was sent in the kit to see how it wears before changing anything.

    4. Yeah, that's my plan too. I'm getting some swatches of the thicker stuff, so I'll decide on the floor covering when I get to that point.
