UPDATE: The pictures below are correct, so I will be riveting them tonight!

1 hr. sorting out the wing jigs.  Seems like the jig arms were mislabeled, so that threw me off.

Did I get it right?  Once I'm convinced it's right, I'll rivet them, bolt them to my benches and make sure they are level with each other to within the precision of the level.

The right jigs (?)  Root on left and wing tip on right.

3 hrs. today priming most of the remaining wing parts, including the spars.  Also cleco'ed together the wing jigs.

I finished my video of the complete part prep process.  I show myself spraying the spars only once or twice, but I actually sprayed them multiple times per side to make sure I had complete coverage.  Turned out great.:

I found that the wing jigs which have the "right" parts seem to be for the left wing and vice-versa.  Until I figure out if I did something wrong I won't rivet them.  This is a photo of the root jig with the "right" labeled parts, but it's clearly for the left wing because the part sticking out is supposed to connect to the main spar which is in front.  Is left and right opposite in South Africa? :-)

1 hr. tidying up and reorganizing the workshop (I need an orderly and clean space to work or my progress slips... I just don't like a disorderly workspace.) and 1 hr. cleaning parts for the 1st time using my new approach of Extreme Simple Green.  I use a 3-to-1 ratio of distilled water to the cleaner.  Works great!  Way better than the toxic stuff I'd been using.

2 hrs. deburring parts.  Tomorrow will be cleaning and priming, then onto the assembly!

4 hrs. today finishing up the wing rib sub-assemblies and starting the prep on the remaining wing parts.

Notice the rivets that must be riveted from the inside (as per the instructions).

Hmm, two holes on Wing Rib 8 that don't have matching holes in the part behind.  Drill through and rivet?

Torquing the hinge nuts.  AN4 bolts need 85 in-lbs, but you need to add the friction drag of the nuts.  I estimated (not sure how to measure it...) that to be 15 in-lbs, so the total set on the torque wrench was 100 in-lbs.

Got my new rivet gun today!  Now I can continue work while I unjam the other one.

Also, I updated my Education Page with book recommendations for building and flying.  If anybody has any recommendations I missed, please let me know!

2 hr's today priming parts (it was a beautiful day!) using my new priming rig and new sprayer (which I LOVE!).  My previous pneumatic sprayer, which I found difficult to use, died, so I bought a highly recommended electric sprayer.  This sprayer is light-years easier to use and it has a perfect fine spray.  Also, since it's electric, it is way easier to move around.  I'll post a video sometime over the next week or so showing my whole part prep process from pulling the plastic off to priming.

Notice the orientation of the bolt: down.  So, if the nut falls off, gravity keeps it there.  This is standard practice (but not noted in the instructions so you should know this).

Then the rivet gun jammed and progress ended for the day...  Will try to unjam it tomorrow...  Argh...

Spent some time over the last couple of days playing with paint schemes.  Ignore the specific colors as I used the decidedly low-tech approach of using Crayola markers. ;-)

1.5 hrs. Putting together my new priming setup and removing plastic from wing nose ribs.

Using a garment rack (bought from Amazon) I attached a large towel to the hanging bar with clips top and bottom.  Here's a picture of one side - the other side also has parts hanging, so I can actually prime many parts in one shot.  I use 14 gauge solid wire to hang the parts.

Unwrapped the main wing spars to get ready for deburring, cleaning and priming.  I recently read a quote from an expert builder and accident investigator that said that every time they investigated an accident due to a metal structural member failing it was always due to that part not being properly deburred (crack propagating).  I ran my finger along the edges of the spar and they need to be deburred.  I will be very careful to ensure silky smooth edges.

Wing Nose Ribs 106, 107 and 109.  One of the 106 ribs was labeled 109 and the 106 and 109 seem to be perfectly identical - so the question is, do I have the correct 106 ribs?  Perhaps the 106 and 109 ribs are the same and one was just mislabeled?  Stay tuned.
