While it seems like I haven't been working on my plane much, I really have.  It's just that most of what I'm doing is research and part buying related to the electrical system, antennas, avionics and the panel in general.  I plan to get a request for a quote to SteinAir this week.

Just found this useful wiring guide.

Also found this guide to soldering d-sub connectors of which there are a few in the airplane.

1 hr. on magnetometer install and thinking about COM2 install.

The mount for the magnetometer was for the larger, older magnetometer, so new holes must be drilled for the GMU 11.

Front two in place, so I can accurately locate the rear holes.

Rivnuts in.  I left the threadlocker visible in this photo for the rear rivnuts to remind you to always use threadlocker for rivnuts.

Cleaning up around the area made me add a task to clean out the rear fuselage before I put the top skins on.  Pretty grimey!

Put some medium strength (blue) threadlocker on the M3 screws and it's installed.

Contemplating the COM2 install...

Nice to see that BNC is a standard. :-)

It will go here.  I wasn't sure about this location since the coax is pretty stiff and the rudder cables are right above, but I posted this on the Facebook group "Sling Builders" (you are a member, right?) and someone quickly suggested a right-angle BNC connector.  Problem solved!  I'll drill out the holes and temporarily place the backing plate until I'm ready to install the antenna.  Does the backing plate need to be riveted in place to hold it there?  Seems like you can't rivet it because the antenna completely covers the other side.  But, there is a rubber gasket...  Hmm.

1 hr tonight putting on a BNC connector and stringing the wire for the transponder/ADS-B antenna.

Got a bunch of stuff today from my Oshkosh purchases.  Here's the AV-17 antenna for the bottom of the fuselage.

AV-10 for the top, AV-74 transponder/ADS-B antenna and GMU-11 Magnetometer.

Here's where the magnetometer will go.  Will need to drill holes for it and put in rivnuts.  Doesn't seem like there's a forward orientation for it (no labeling on it in regards to that).

RG-400 coax stripped properly and ready to put on the connector.

Done.

I got the blank Sling 4 panel file from TAF, so I'll upload that to the avionics page sometime within the next few days, when I have my equipment list done.

Also, I saw the Sling 2 built by Midwest at the show and was told by Jean to check out their panel switches.  Very nice switches!  Really solid switch action.

These are those switches.  I also like these versions which have an LED in the end to indicate if they're on.  So many choices! ;-)

Fellow Sling 4 builders, I've been told by the factory that the current Sling 4 panel's height is 12.5" and not the 11.74" I was told a couple of years ago.  So, make sure you get the latest CAD file from them.  They've sent me a file, but it is not blank, so I'm trying to get a version that is blank.

If anybody has further info on this, that I'm not aware of, please let me know.

Since I want to get my quote request in relatively soon I've started to put together the complete aircraft equipment list.  It's not done, but here it is so far.  If anybody has any input, please let me know!  Missing things?  Part recommendations?  What indicator lamps are on the panel?  Any useful info would be appreciated!

Once it's done I will post again and copy to my Avionics page for reference.

Great time at Oshkosh!  Hung out with lots of Slingers, including Bob and his wife Joan.  Also got some new Sling Bling (a new hat).

Met and had a long conversation with Stein Bruch of SteinAir.com.  I'm definitely going to go with them to build my panel.  They're the big kahuna of panel building, and there's a reason:  They know what they're talking about and do a great job.  He said that they have a lead time right now of about 6 months from first quote to shipping the panel, so I'm starting to put together all the info they need to quote me the panel.  Once I'm done with that info I will post it here as it will be useful for other builders.

Stein advised me to not go with the first generation of the PPS from Vertical Power.  Very expensive ($1500!) and not clear that it's a big win over the $100 worth of traditional parts it would be replacing.  He did though totally endorse using the Vertical Power VP-X Pro which I already own.  They will completely wire that up as part of the panel build.

Bought my antennas and magnetometer from Aircraft Spruce while I was there, so those should be arriving in a couple of days.

Also, I was advised by TAF to get my order in for the Rotax 915 now...  They've already got a list of builders that want it.

Here's some pics from the show:
